DESCRIPTION

This is a part-time 60% Career position.

Applies professional Student Services concepts. Provides varied student services to students, faculty, and department / school / college management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues.

Under general direction of the Student Affairs Manager and in consultation with the Chair, MSO and faculty committees, this position is responsible for the maintenance of the undergraduate academic programs in NanoEngineering. The incumbent will establish and review baseline policies and procedures for the NanoEngineering Student Affairs Office; assist in development of courses; work closely with the faculty and administration to resolve program deviations; represent the Department as needed with other student affairs operations on campus. Work closely with the Department Chair, Vice-Chair, faculty committees and relevant student affairs staff committees on programmatic matters.

The incumbent provides programmatic and academic advising to prospective and continuing undergraduate students is a backup to the graduate student advisor in the NanoEngineering Department. This position will use the various on-line systems for student affairs functions, produce requested reports and make recommendations based on evaluation of data and utilize the virtual advising center (VAC) for maintenance of on-line student records. Reviews, coordinates, and edits the quarterly schedule or classes and orders textbooks. Prepares and updates student affairs/academic program content for the NanoEngineering website.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.

  • Knowledge of University processes and procedures.

  • Understanding of University rules and regulations. Knowledge of and demonstrated working experience in student affairs operation at a university level. Proven ability to advise students on university/departmental program offerings, policies and procedures and curricular requirements.

  • Interpersonal skills. Good interpersonal skills; exhibiting tact, diplomacy, flexibility and courtesy in a professional manner.

  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. Proven ability to interact with a wide variety of personnel, students and faculty at all levels.

  • Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.

  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning. Ability to anticipate problems, identify and analyze available options and implement corrective actions.

  • Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills. Ability to balance multiple, often conflicting priorities with deadline constraints and numerous interruptions.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Ability to utilize independent decision-making skills. Demonstrated effective problem solving skills. Ability to identify research and analyze complex situations, recommend solutions and determine action steps to be taken to affect resolutions.

  • Skill in using various computer programs for word processing, database management, electronic mail, spreadsheet, internet and desktop publishing applications.

  • Demonstrated record management experience. Proven skill in establishing and maintaining accurate, organized records, files and filing systems.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime for special events or projects.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive materials and issues.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.95 - $42.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
