Job Summary

The Fire and Life Safety Unit in the Facilities Services Department is responsible for the repair, testing and operation of the fire alarm and life safety systems and equipment at UCSF. Under the direction of the Fire Alarms Supervisor of Fire and Life Safety Systems, the incumbent will test and inspect fire and life safety systems and assist in installation, maintenance and repair of equipment.

Department Description

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 400 professional staff and acts as steward for over $90 million in operating funds to achieve its goals in operating and maintaining the UCSF campus environment. Located in the Campus Life Services (CLS) organization, FS is organized into five distinct units: (1) Mission Bay / East Campus Operations, (2) Parnassus / West Campus Operations, (3) Infrastructure & Utilities Services, (4) Customer Service & Technology, and (5) Strategic Organization Development. Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience performing semi-skilled fire safety work or one (1) year as a Fire Safety Inspector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with campus departments at all levels, contractors and design consultants; ability to effectively interact with a diverse professional staff both independently and as a team member in a busy environment
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations and reports
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated theoretical and working knowledge of Fire Safety inspection process
  • Demonstrated ability to give clear written and oral instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes
  • Able to analyze problems, determine solutions, and make decisions based on analysis
Fingerprinting, background check, and physical examination required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • University and/or Medical Center experience
