SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager or Senior Manager

Our client, a leading AR/VR pre-IPO startup for K-12 students, is seeking an SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager or Senior Manager. The company develops both hardware and software and they arehiring their first SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting Manager to help them get public company ready.


LOCATION: San Jose. This is a hybrid role.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting Manager will to develop processes and policies, drive enhancement within the finance function, and support and enable the Company's growth.The role reports into the Corporate Controller and will partner closely on all aspects of improving the robustness of the Accounting function. From ensuring the integrity and accuracy of quarterly and annual filings, to the ongoing operating of the company's Finance function, and providing technical accounting analysis of significant transactions and recently issued accounting updates, this will be a highly visible role with C-Suite exposure and external constituents (e.g.: auditors)
Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and review of all SEC filings (Form 10Q, 10K, Proxy, etc.) including managing the review and approval process of all SEC filings with external auditors, senior management, legal counsel, disclosure committee and audit committee
  • Own the quarterly drafting and review cycle - covering financial statements, disclosure checklists, auditor reviews - and monitor progress against reporting cycle milestones, in service to all GAAP and disclosure requirements
  • Support the annual audit and quarterly review activities with external auditors
  • Monitor the development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules being deliberated by the SEC, US GAAP, PCAOB, or other regulations. Maintain an awareness of Company products, services and the related regulatory environment to effectively manage and comply with all regulatory reporting requirements and disclosures.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding and analysis of significant transactions to assess their impact for SEC disclosure purposes.
  • Assist in providing support for CD&A, executive compensation, etc. for proxy statement.
  • Monitor and revise procedures to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Prepare technical accounting research, maintenance and documentation of new policies and procedures.

Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Ability):
  • Relevant work experience, including Big 4 public accounting experience and SEC reporting experience with a publicly-traded company
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a demonstrated ability to convey how financial and regulatory requirements shape operational business practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills with a forward-looking focus
  • Experience with Sarbanes Oxley and internal control over financial reporting
  • Experience with SEC reporting tools and partners (e.g.: Workiva, XBRL, Toppan Merrill)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adept at leading change
  • Strong presence in group meetings with senior management and external parties (e.g.: auditors)
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Certified Public Accounting
COMPENSATION:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $155K-$175K + equity.
