Job Summary

The Insurance Representative for Not Our Facility Out-pt and In-pt aka "NOFO/NOFI" is responsible for all NOFO/NOFI tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Analyzing patient demographic registration
  • Visit creation
  • Insurance Registration
  • Chart note scanning, correct DEP selection, and Pseudo code creation for coding work-queue population
  • Coordination with various off-site departments, clinics, and hospitals to obtain correct documentation so charge codes can be abstracted from chart notes for billing.
The unit deals regularly with complex policy and procedural issues that involve registration compliance about Medicare, Medic-Cal, CCS, HMO and PPO payers. The Rep must have excellent customer service skills with emphasis on phone etiquette and courteousness. All tasks associated with the NOFO/NOFI unit will be initiated and completed within the EPIC computer system. Other duties include:
  • Vision Service Plan charges into the Eyefinity system.
  • Handles complex policy and procedural issues that involve contract compliance with regard to HMO and PPO payers.
  • Utilize web-based tools, including payor websites.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all outside entities to ensure access to their computer systems for the retrieval of appropriate documentation.
  • Conform to all UCSF, MGBS, and Government HIPAA policies and procedures.

An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role. Department Description

Medical Group Business Services (MGBS) is responsible for the professional fee billing and collections for approximately 25 divisions in the School of Medicine. MGBS collects approximately $1B annually and takes ownership for continuing to find ways for the Divisions to ensure charges are captured and increase payments.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One or more years of Patient Registration experience working in a doctor's office or a University setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • The ability to work in our Emeryville office when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in Epic Software
