Under the direction of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch, Local Capacity Building Unit Chief, this position will provide technical assistance (TA), local capacity-building (LCB) assistance, and consultation to local health jurisdictions (LHJs), community based organizations (CBOs), and other stakeholders to build capacity for high quality sexually transmitted disease (STD), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and HIV prevention, screening, testing, linkage to care, treatment, and other services.

This position will act as a subject matter expert on STD, HCV, and/or HIV prevention, including identifying and sharing key interventions that address high priority populations (e.g., people who use drugs, pregnant people who are homeless, adolescents, men who have sex with men), and supporting LHJs, CBOs, or other stakeholders in implementing interventions. As a subject matter expert, this position will plan and implement proactive approaches to increasing the capacity of local programs to conduct STD/HCV/HIV prevention, screening, testing, linkage to care, treatment, and other services by convening workgroups, statewide meetings, site visits, conference calls, and webinars. This position will also respond to requests for assistance by facilitating linkages to literature, policies, resources, and peers to achieve outcomes to reduce STD/HCV/HIV morbidity and mortality through sharing of evidence-based practices and lessons learned.

This position offers a hybrid work environment including both remote and office centered work. The CDPH standard for hybrid work is a minimum of two days per week in-person and up to three teleworking days per week. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department's operational business needs and subject to change at any time consistent with CDPH Telework Program. This position will require a light to moderate volume of travel to conduct program activities and local site visits. Site visits may require the use of a personal, rental, or state vehicle.

Department Description

The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control Branch is part of the Division of Communicable Disease Control, within the Center for Infectious Diseases, of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The CDPH is dedicated to protecting and optimizing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities.

The mission of CDPH's STD Control Branch is to reduce the transmission and impact of sexually transmitted infections (STI), mpox and viral hepatitis in California, particularly among communities disproportionately affected by these infections. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum 3 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office 2010, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • At least two years program development, implementation, or project management experience or public health program or direct services experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health, public policy, public administration, social work, or related field
  • At least one year of experience working in STD, HCV, HIV, family planning, case management, outreach, or community-based service delivery settings
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs
