As a Senior Channel Applications Engineer, you will be the design authority for engineering projects in Motion Drive Products in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical sales execution to the channel team, channel partners, technical support, product engineering, R&D (Research & Development) and the end customers. The areas of technical sales execution include but are not limited to; ABB Low Voltage (LV) drive & PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) /HMI (Human Machine Interface) product knowledge, LV drive & PLC/HMI product application and general LV drive and motor application issues.

Your responsibilities

  • Prioritize, schedule, delegate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate support for the application of ABB PLC/HMIs, and LV drives in various industrial processes, systems and applications
  • Design and recommend tailored solutions based on a deep knowledge of the portfolio and capabilities to meet customers' unique needs
  • Contribute to specification by negotiating deviations and agreeing on win win solutions. Identify and communicate applicability of (new/emerging) functional solutions to address current business issues
  • Advise others on the delivery of high quality solutions by applying broad and deep professional expertise
  • Continuously aim to meet targets even in difficult circumstances with value argumentation
  • Identify and systematically follow up on business opportunities
  • Focus energy on key tasks. Take extra measure to ensure customer satisfaction
  • PLC/HMI motor application problems and initiate effective measures for their solution
  • Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Continuously strengthen existing customer relationships
  • Take the initiative to get to know new customers
  • Follow up on customer complaints in a timely manner according to a defined process
  • Identify and meet customer needs and ask for feedback
  • Increase own network within the organization
  • Build business relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Use of Salesforce to track, metric, report, communicate and forecast field activities
  • Support others on the job by sharing tool and process best practices
  • Be able to describe the general characteristics of the sales processes and apply the tools efficiently
  • Participate in sales meetings to become familiar with market and business information
  • Identify opportunities for improvements based on structure customer feedback
  • Actively search for market information related to competitive product offerings and technology
  • Deal with simple/basic deviations in standard terms and conditions and participate in assessment of business risks
  • Recognize potential risk factors in correspondence prior to a transaction and take action accordingly
  • Know and confidently use basic sales techniques (example; communication, active listening, presentation)
  • Take different viewpoints into consideration when creating a solution
  • Self reflect on sales approach and adjust to customers as needed
  • Proactively discuss the Service portfolio with customers on a "common" level to identify the actual need and to create awareness for future activities
  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals as applied to PLC/HMIs, LV drives and motors
  • Including DC (Direct Current) Bus sharing, regeneration, fieldbus and brake choppers
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals as applied to LV drives, motors, drive applications such as gear reduction, reflected inertia, application torque and acceleration torque demands
  • Support the Channel team with customer presentations and demonstrations by serving as the product expert through strong solution competence
  • Support development and delivery of application specific or advanced technical training for channel partners and customers. Drive technical competence within the Channel
  • Support development and delivery of application, product and whitepaper specific or advanced technical webinar for channel partners and customers
  • Create tools such as spreadsheets and application notes to assist others in applying PLC/HMI and LV drive products and options
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Practice and enforce strict compliance with all safety rules whenever subordinates are working on energized electrical equipment and help enforce such safety standards with others who may be involved in work on such energized equipment
  • Draft test plans. Setup and preform product, customer and performance testing in the lab to help answer customer & application questions. Leverage information for Tech Notes, Whitepapers and technical training
  • Create detail technical reports on product issues that need to be correct by other departments and manage the customer relationship during the correction is being implemented by other departments
  • Interface with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Application Engineer to collaborate on systems and solutions relevant to OEM needs. Support tailored solutions offered by ABB in region
Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 8 years' experience in the application of Low Voltage drive required
  • Travel up to 50% required
  • Exceptional technical application and technical communication skills
  • Understanding of Serial and Ethernet communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Etc)
  • Programming experience in industrial PLCs (ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, Square D, or others and basic understanding of Compressors, Pump & Fan, Extruder, Crane, Hoists & Winches, Centrifuge, General Machinery and other applications
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
