What The Role Is

Reporting to the Director of Grid Integration, the Associate, Transmission, and Interconnection Planning will play a critical role in supporting generation interconnection and transmission strategy for Clearway's ~30 GW of solar, wind and battery storage pipeline in multiple states in the US. The Associate will be a key member of the Grid Integration team responsible for interconnection strategy and execution of early-stage greenfield projects, mid-stage projects with LGIAs and advanced stage projects. The Associate will support all interconnection activities through the full life cycle of development and construction of projects. Additionally, the Associate will be engaged in transmission planning processes across the region and track ongoing as well as prospective transmission development.

What You'll Be Doing
  • As a technical expert on load flow modeling and analyses, develop and validate models (GE-PSLF, PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN, PSCAD, etc.) for generation interconnection applications and packages
  • Develop and maintain transmission system models for scenario testing of
  • Coordinate, review, and interpret interconnection and transmission studies (short circuit, transient stability, and load flow) performed by utilities and outside consultants
  • Perform power flow analysis, review models, and review studies to determine potential upgrade and costs associated with interconnection
  • Provide technical support for project development and acquisition activities in the evaluation of transmission system issues within the various ISOs/RTOs and transmission planning regions
  • Actively monitor the progress of required system upgrades and identifying creative mitigation solutions when needed within the applicable open access transmission tariff
  • Identify and develop tools for managing and reducing costs, and provide technical solutions to address specific transmission and distribution grid requirements for various markets
What You'll Bring

Knowledge & Skills

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 4-6 years of experience in transmission planning or generation interconnection at a utility, RTO/ISO, generation developer or an energy consulting firm
  • Demonstrated experience in simulation tools such as GE PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, PSSE or PowerWorld
  • Ability to analyze power flow and system impact studies for interconnection of utility scale solar, wind, and storage generating facilities
  • Understanding of electrical diagrams, preliminary site plans, and preparation of interconnection request packages for submittal
  • Working knowledge of the interconnection process in the ISOs/RTOs
  • Awareness and familiarity with transmission systems and transmission planning processes in several parts of the North American grid.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under time constraints
  • Knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations
$103,000$153,000 USD
