The International Partners

The Aspen Institute's International Partners are on the front lines to spark intellectual inquiry and respond to the need for civil discourse in their societies. Each branch of the Aspen family tree is committed to upholding the Aspen mission to drive change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the most important challenges facing the world. Since 1974, the Aspen Institute has inspired 12 international partner organizations in 15 countries: Central Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia), France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Romania, Spain, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. The Aspen idea continues to grow and expand worldwide, most recently with the Aspen Colombia Initiative and the Aspen Initiative Africa - Nairobi.

Overview

The International Partners (IP) team is seeking an Intern who will be responsible for assisting the Program Associate and Director in daily responsibilities and who will help implement new initiatives. Reporting to the Program Associate, the Intern will maintain databases, curate a weekly international newsletter, assist with both internal and external communication, help coordinate and plan logistical aspects of initiatives and meetings, and oversee social media.

Candidates should be organized, able to adhere to critical deadlines in a timely manner, able to diplomatically communicate with stakeholders, and be a team-player.

Duties and Responsibilities: Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Liaise with IP points of contact to facilitate and respond to partner inquiries
  • Assist IP team with communication to the International Committee Chair and Executive Vice President on partner activities and prepare talking points for the IC Chair and EVP as needed
  • Design the IP Global Briefing, sent every Tuesday, through the curation of content, events, and announcements to share with the Aspen and international network
  • Tracking Aspen Institute (US) and international partner collaboration
  • Promote partner content through social media, including managing the International Partners Twitter account and YouTube playlist
  • Support IP team in processing reimbursements and funding transfers to partners
  • Assist with diversity, inclusion, and outreach strategies to fulfill Aspen's mission and commitment to having diverse and inclusive programming
  • Support new international partners by tailoring orientation packets and welcome letters to the Chair and Director
  • Research possible donors and draft proposals for prospective funders of cross-network projects
  • Organize the IP server consistently, and ensure contact lists are up to date
  • Assist with planning and executing international programs, meetings, and events
  • Collaborate with the web design team at the Institute to design and update the International Partners website with currents events and news from partners, and develop cohesive website design across the network of partners

Hours: 20 hours/week; Position is hybrid with at least one working day per week in the DC office.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess the following skills and/or attributes:

  • Currently in a relevant undergraduate or graduate course of study
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with emphasis on time-management, attention to detail and the ability to plan, organize, and carry out multiple activities
  • Strong communication and writing skills, including ability to conduct online research and analysis
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Team player who can also work individually and be a self-starter
  • Knowledge of and adherence to professional ethics
